Translating Game Experiences to Business

In today’s fast-paced business world, the pressure to innovate and adapt is constant. But what if the key to unlocking new ideas and improving teamwork could be found in an unexpected place: a game? Last week, I had the pleasure of co-hosting a dynamic play session with Andra Stefanescu, where we explored how game experiences can translate into actionable insights for the business world.

The Power of Play in Business

Games are more than just a form of entertainment. They are structured experiences that require strategic thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and sometimes a bit of luck—qualities that are just as essential in the workplace. Our session was built on the premise that the principles of play can be directly applied to business challenges, leading to fresh perspectives and, ultimately, better outcomes.

Three Parts, Three Purposes

We designed the session to include three distinct parts, each focused on different aspects of the game-to-business translation:

  1. Crativity by Invitation

  2. Let solutions come to you!

  3. Convergent Thinking

  • Say what you see!

  • Dobble

  • Blitzdings

  • Verkopft

  • etc.

The Impact: Aha-Moments and Immediate Takeaways

The session was a resounding success. Participants were fully engaged, and the room buzzed with energy as they connected the dots between the games and their professional lives. The numerous aha-moments shared by attendees were a testament to the power of play as a learning tool. Many expressed their enthusiasm for applying the insights gained during the session directly to their work, whether it be improving team dynamics, enhancing strategic planning, or fostering a more innovative mindset.

Looking Forward

We are thrilled with the feedback from this session and are hopeful that the lessons learned will continue to resonate with participants as they return to their daily routines. The session demonstrated that play is not just a break from work—it can be an integral part of learning and development. We look forward to hosting more sessions like this in the future and continuing to explore the rich intersection of games and business.
